The Isles of Scilly are low lying islands off the West tip of Cornwall. They have a sub tropical climate due to the Gulf Stream and can be idyllic on a sunny day. Celtic saints were drawn to these remote islands as they were to other 'edge of the world' places because they felt they were 'thin', a place where heaven and earth could touch. It's thought that at one point many of the islands had hermits living on them or small prayer communities.
